What is a CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture is a unique model that connects farmers and farms to the community. The farmer produces a wide variety of crops picked at the peak of flavor and nutrition and grown in a natural way. Members of the community support this endeavor by purchasing a share of the season’s harvest. Shares are provided on a weekly basis during the growing season. Participants make a commitment to share in the risks and rewards of farming. CSA allows consumers to see how and where their food is grown as well as who grew it. This year we will be working with several farms in order to have more of a cooperative CSA program.
Share Information
By joining the co-op, you are committing to shoulder the risks and share the rewards of the season. You are also committing to eat with the season. The season determines not only when certain produce becomes available but also the amount. The season lasts for 18 weeks beginning in June and running through September. The harvest is divided among the members on a weekly basis and received on the given pick-up day. Variety and amounts vary with the weather and month. Our goal is to provide enough produce for a family of four each week to the best of our ability. However, in farming there are always risks and hazards, and sometimes nature decides it has other plans. This is the beauty of CSA as you will be joining in both the ups and downs of growing food. However, by using our new co-op model, we hope to keep the supply more consistent.
